All
over the world gemstones have a tremendous reputation as a symbol of elegance,
purity and perfection. Their use in cosmetics has increased significantly over
the past few years as they are a perfect way to convey the ideal sense of
luxury while capitalizing on the holistic benefits associated with the prized
gems. Amethyst is not the exception, in fact it is the gemstone that for
thousands of years has been used to adorn royalty. The story of Amethyst comes from a Greek
legend where the god of wine, Dyonisus, was insulted one day by a mere mortal.
He swore the next mortal that crossed his path, would be attacked by his fierce
tigers. Along came a beautiful maiden named Amethyst. To protect the innocent
maiden from the tiger’s claws, goddess Diana turned Amethyst into a beautiful
quartz statue. Dyonisus felt remorse and wept tears of wine over the stone
maiden, creating a lively purple stone.
Amethyst
is the purple variety of quartz and the most valued member of this family.
Purple has always been known as the color of royalty; in fact Amethyst is
featured in the British Crown jewels and was a favorite of Catherine the Great
and Egyptian royalty.
This
gemstone is a low pressure/temperature polymorph of SiO2 found all over the
world inside geodes and alluvial deposits. Amethyst’s purple color is
attributed to its concentration of manganese. This essential nutrient has been
shown to act as a coenzyme in a variety of metabolic processes including
protein synthesis and mineral transportation and absorption. When applied to
the skin, manganese is understood to enhance the proper function of Super Oxide
Dismutase (SOD). This is a powerful antioxidant enzyme that is capable of
reducing inflammation and preventing other free radical damage that contributes
to oxidative stress in the body. As a result, using ingredients that contain manganese
may help provide superior protective and anti-aging benefits.
Amethyst
is associated with a number of beliefs and regarded as a talisman for both love
and fortune. It is popularly known as a protective jewel that guards against
thieves and evil spirits. Many believe that if placed under the pillow at
night, this beautiful gemstone produces a calm and peaceful sleep. Now a days,
Amethyst is known to possess holistic properties associated with healing,
cleansing and beautifying the skin. FSS Amethyst Extract PF is an
aqueous extract created from pulverized Amethyst. This product is recommended
for use as an emotive additive for luxury cosmetics designed to convey glamour,
