Familiar with the phrase “cool as a cucumber”? This colloquial adage is not without merit. This vegetable’s high water content and crunchy texture gives it a very unique moist, and cooling taste. The cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is a widely cultivated plant in the gourd family Cucurbitaceae.
This plant is a creeping vine with thin spiraling tendrils and large leaves that form a canopy over the fruit. The fruit is commonly harvested while still green; though generally after the fruits outgrow their spines. They are eaten as a vegetable, either, raw, cooked, or made into pickled cucumbers. Although less nutritious than most fruit with at least 95% water content, the fresh cucumber is still a source of vitamin C, vitamin K, and potassium, also providing dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin B6, thiamin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, and manganese. It was very popular in the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece and Rome, where people not only consumed the fruit but also utilized it for its beneficial skin healing properties.
Known since antiquity for their properties, the fruit itself is demulcent, diuretic, emollient, purgative and tonic. The flesh of cucumbers is primarily composed of water but also contains ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and caffeic acid, both of which prevent water retention, help soothe skin irritations and reduce swelling. Cucumbers’ hard skin is rich in fiber and contains a variety of beneficial minerals including silica, potassium and magnesium. Cucumber juice is often recommended as a source of silica to improve the complexion and health of the skin, plus cucumber’s high water content makes it naturally hydrating—a must for glowing skin. Cucumbers are also used topically for various types of skin problems, including puffiness under the eyes.
Organic Cucumber RS is a whole fruit extract that can be incorporated into a range of cosmetic formulations to provide a moisturizing, soothing feel on the skin.

Formulating Guidelines: Add to the aqueous or cooling phase of your formulation.
Note: Mix well prior to use; Product may change appearance if exposed to cold temperatures during shipment or storage. If this happens, please gently warm to 45-50°C and mix until normal appearance is restored. Lot to lot variation may exist beyond our control due to seasonal weather and resulting crop variations in our supply of the natural plant materials.
Storage: Protected from direct light and humidity at a temperature of 50°-77°F (10°-25°C)
Shelf life: 12 months from the date of manufacture, properly stored, in sealed container.
This product should be added to a formulation at the recommended usage rate.
