FSS Babassu Oil
FSS Babassu Oil is derived from the nut (the kernel inside the nut) of the Babassu Palm tree, which is native to the tropical north and northeastern portions of Brazil. There are an estimated 5-25 billion Babassu Palm trees located in these regions of Brazil. The Palm produces a fruit which exists in large bunches of 200-600 fruits. The individual fruits each contain 3-8 kernels, which in turn contain approximately 60-70% Babassu Oil. FSS Babassu Oil is very similar in properties to that of Coconut Oil, and is being used more often as a substitute for Coconut Oil.
Cosmetically, FSS Babassu Oil is used in a vast number of soap and cosmetic’s applications, utilizing a major portion of the oil that is produced.
The nuts are collected by indigenous workers and peoples of Brazil. The nuts are then cracked open manually to expose the inner lying kernels. The kernels are then cooked and mechanically pressed to extrude the oil. The pressed cake is then used as animal feed, while the crude oil is subjected to a clarifying, deodorizing and refining processes. In tropical climates, like Brazil, the oil is completely liquid. In more temperate climates, the oil solidifies and becomes white in color. It is very easily converted to a liquid oil when exposed to slightly elevated temperatures.
FSS Babassu Oil is used widely in cosmetics for its strong conditioning benefits in both hair and skin care formulations. This unique oil can be used to deliver a luxuriously smooth and soft feel to the skin and hair.
