Algae are members of a group of mainly aquatic photosynthetic organisms. Algae display various traits relating to color, shape, size, and living environment depending on the type of algae. Chlorophyll, present in the algae, allow the plants to harness sunlight for photosynthesis or to produce energy. Algae have been around for over 2 billion years and have become an integral part of human society. The plants are useful for personal skin and hair care products1.
Algae are known for hydration and conditioning benefits when used on the skin. Antioxidants present also protect skin from free radical damage and reduce the signs of premature aging. Vitamins A,B,C, and E are available to protect cells and tissue, and moisturize skin. Algae are used in cosmetic products for maintaining skin moisture, increasing elasticity, and detoxification3. Hair care products can also provide benefits with algae by strengthening hair follicles. As a natural cleanser or detox, algae can remove unwanted product or buildup from hair without drying out the hair. This property can reduce damage, prevent further damage, and repair split ends while providing hydration2. FSS Black Algae Extract is a useful extract to incorporate the benefits of algae into any hair or skin care formulation.
Please note: Product may change appearance if exposed to cold temperatures during shipment or storage. If this happens, please gently warm to 45-50°C and mix until normal appearance is restored.

Suggested Applications: Botanical, Conditioning

Formulating Guidelines: Add to your aqueous or cooling phase of your formulation, no more than 70°C
Storage: Protected from direct light and humidity at a temperature of 50°-77°F (10°-25°C)
Shelf life: 12 months from the date of manufacture.
This product should be added to a formulation at the recommended usage rate.
