Consumers love buying cosmetics that contain caviar, diamonds, champagne and truffles. Market researchers speculate that it’s because they like the idea of treating themselves with that which are perceived as rare and expensive. The concept makes sense, after all not many of us have champagne & truffles on a regular basis; these items are typically reserved for special events and celebrations. But regardless of why customers like them, what is important for formulators is to realize that they do.

What could be more luxurious than the combination of Champagne & Truffles? Truffles are perhaps one of the most valuable and prized non-cultivated ingredients harvested. People still go out searching for them now as they did over 100 years ago, at the beginning of dusk when there’s a cool mist in the air and no one around to see where they are being found. Brillat-Savarin, the be famed gastronome referred to the truffle as “the diamond of the kitchen”. Renowned for their unique and aromatic flavors, they are so rare and expensive that diners typically experience culinary wonderment with only a few slivers of truffle or truffle infused oils accenting their plate.

Champagne is of course the drink reserved mostly for celebrations, it’s what we drink to ring in the New Year and it’s what we use to toast other noteworthy accomplishments and rites of passage. All true champagnes come from the Champagne region of France, which is where the grapes are grown and where the champagne is made. The Institute National des Appelations d’Origine (INAO) is the French government’s bureau that closely oversees agricultural products and certifies that they indeed originate from the appropriate region in France. Sparkling wines such as Champagne are unique from other wines as they undergo a second fermentation in the bottle; this process is what creates the bubbles.
