BACKGROUND
Imperata cylindrica, also known as Cogon Grass, is native to warm regions in West Africa that are partial to brief flooding, but it is a hearty plant that is able to survive in a widerange of climates. It is a tall, slender lanceolate that arises from a thick underlayer of rhizomes, and the leaf margins are finely toothed and embedded with silica crystals.

Because of its ability to survive in flooded environments, it is not surprising that FSS Imperata Cylindrica Extract G PF is an excellent long-term moisturizer that shows increased hydration effects even after 24 hours. Its potential for increased moisture levels is due to the all-natural, plant extracts that are rich in potassium and 3-dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP), which may help increase intercellular osmosis, water is believed to be drawn into the cells and may remain there even after showering. DMSP is an osmoprotective compound that can be found in many plants with known moisturizing properties. Research has shown that DMSP is derived from methionine, one of the essential amino acids in human nutrition.

EFFICACY
According to the Karl Fischer method, FSS Imperata Cylindrica Extract G PF is composed of 65-75% water. Thus based solely on the composition of the plant matter, it may be safe to assume that it is naturally an excellent moisturizer and hydrator. FSS Imperata Cylindrica Extract PF is said to provide hydration to the stratum corneum so that it looks younger and wrinkles fade.
The moisturization benefits of 2.0% FSS Imperata Cylindrica Extract G PF were compared to the biological control. Test Product: Oil/ Water Emulsion Base + 2.0% FSS Imperata Cylindrica Extract G PF (in O/W base emulsion) The results indicate that FSS Imperate Cylindrica Extract G PF is capable of increasing average level of skin moisturization by almost 45% when compared to the biological control. Our assay illustrates that it is possible to make long-term moisturization claims based on the incorporation of FSS Imperata Cylindrica Extract G PF in a cosmetic or personal care formula.
**If product is too viscous to pour from shipping container, it may be heated to 45 - 50˚C. This will lower the viscosity so that it is easily pourable and will not affect product performance.**

Storage: Store in a dry place at temperatures not exceeding 32°C. Based on stability studies, the optimum storage temperature for maximization of shelf life is 23 - 25°C. However, it may be stored at temperatures between 16 and 32°C if such specific temperature control is not available. Do not freeze.
Shelf life: 12 months from the date of manufacture.
This product should be added to a formulation at the recommended usage rate.
