Shiny, oily skin is never fashionable; and we are always looking for new innovative products that help prevent and reduce the appearance of oil on our skin. Oily skin has been attributed to excess sebum production, although it is understood that hormones such androgens can contribute to sebum production, many of us tend to overlook the fact that UV rays promote the production of sebum. Therefore individuals that do not typically have oily skin can actually benefit t from sebum controlling products.
People with oily skin tend to use products that contain high concentrations of alcohol. Alcohol typically causes the epithelium to become excessively dry and can trigger a vicious cycle referred to as “oil rebound” in which the sebaceous glands secrete extra sebum to counter act the drying effect of the alcohol, then to counteract the excess sebum one typically applies more of the alcohol product. Another traditional method for sebum control is to use talc which is intended to absorb the oil and minimize shine; however these types of products are often visible on the skin and change color slightly after they have absorbed sebum. Talc may also clump on the face and appear “cakey” while clogging pores that lead to unsightly breakouts.
Instead of removing sebum from the epidermis, one can minimize the appearance of the sebum by changing how it lays on the surface of the face. FSS Rice Bioferment consists of a polypeptide biopolymer that may provide additional film forming benefits. It is intended to bind to the sebum on the skin and disperse it so one cannot see an oily layer. By changing the conformation of sebum, one also alters the tactile properties so the skin will not look or feel oily.
FSS Rice BioFerment PF is recommended for cosmetic and personal care applications such as make-up foundation, finishing serums, moisturizers, face gels, shampoo, conditioner and styling creams.
