Blueberry, Vaccinium angustifolium, which is a low lying, straggling shrub often called low bush blueberry has a glossy foliage that turns various colors throughout the seasons. This shrub eventually produces small white or pink flowers which are followed by an edible blue fruit we know as blueberry. This shrub is fire tolerant and often increases in growth after a brush fire, regenerating rapidly and benefiting from the removal of competing vegetation. This type of blueberry is often called "wild" blueberry due to this attribute.
