FSS Unloaded Liposome PF
Liposomes can be used in the delivery of various cosmetic materials, vitamins, and minerals throughout the body, typically to the skin, for an array of advantages such as antioxidant benefits, conditioning, and antimicrobial purposes. The liposomes may attach and fuse to the cellular membranes, releasing their contents into the target cells. Liposomes are available in different transportation forms: dispersed and emulsified. Those that contain solely aqueous materials are known as dispersed liposomes, and they tend to be small and translucent. Liposomes that enclose hydrophobic elements are considered emulsified, and they tend to be larger and more opaque. However, liposomes are very useful in that they are also able to simultaneously transport both oil- and water-soluble actives within one vesicle; the hydrophilic molecules are encapsulated within the aqueous center of the biomolecule, whereas the hydrophobic elements are incorporated into the lipid bilayer. Unloaded Liposomes offer the opportunity to encapsulate active ingredients for enhanced delivery mechanism. Therefore, depending on use level and solubility profile, this liposome could be loaded by the customer with their desired active ingredient.
Tips for loading liposome:
This liposome comes unloaded with the ability to load your own desired active ingredient. We recommend using shear force with a Silverson homogenizer to load liposomes. This liposome should be able to handle up to roughly 20,000 PSI safely. However, it’s really impossible to say for sure without analyzing the specific formulation. Although anything under 20k PSI will be fine, customers should always verify that for their particular formula and filling process.
You can add the active directly to the liposome mix. The amount of the active able to be loaded really depends on the nature of the specific active you are using. For example, for a water soluble active, the highest realistic percentage able to load is likely 10% and then 1% for an oil soluble active.
It is also important to monitor the temperature and not overheat the liposome, so as not to disturb the phospholipid bilayer. Liposomes are heat stable up to 50°C.

Product may change appearance if exposed to hot or cold temperatures during shipment or storage. If this happens, please gently warm to 45-50°C and mix until normal appearance is restored. We normally recommend to ship liposomes Next Day or 2nd Day Air. If you choose Ground Shipping for the liposome, please follow the instructions above for appearance to be restored.
