Description

FSS DAISY EXTRACT G PF

Herbal extracts have been used as natural cosmetic ingredients for centuries, being known to offer a plethora of desirable effects on the scalp, hair, and skin. Their rich blend of bioactive compounds has been found to bring hydration, protection, and rejuvenation to cosmetic formulas. One plant, in particular, is growing in popularity in the beauty industry for its potential beneficial properties: the common daisy (Bellis perennis). Straight from the meadow to your makeup bag, the common daisy adds a whisper of nature to your daily

beauty care routine.

The daisy is a small, perennial flowering plant widely distributed in Northern Europe, growing on pastures, meadows, or grasslands.1 Also known as “English daisy” or “Woundwort,” the generic name Bellis is derived from a Latin word bellus, meaning “pretty.”3 Used in a plethora of industries, including medicine and cosmetics2, the common daisy adds a touch of nature’s grace. In folk medicine, the daisy has been used as a remedy for a variety of ailments, including dermatological conditions.4 Being rooted in tradition and blooming with simplicity, this popular edible flower is rich in bioactive

compounds that cater to its potent cosmetic benefits.

Since ancient times, the daisy has been a popular wound-healing plant in Europe, including utilization as an anti-inflammatory agent4, which may attest to its alternate “Woundwort” labeling. Present day research also suggests antioxidant effects4, which may present further anti-aging compounds for future cosmetic and personal care products. Antioxidants, particularly, are known to scavenge free radicals from the environment that can pose detrimental effects to the skin and hair, ultimately facilitating the process of premature aging.

Additionally, it has been shown that a bioactive compound obtained from the common daisy can inhibit melanogenesis in human skin.1 In recent years, the demand for cosmetic skin-lightening products has grown exponentially. Specifically, in Asia and Africa, skin-lightening

formulations are applied to make the skin lighter and brighter, while in Western countries, these products are mostly used to prevent or treat irregular pigmentation (such as hyperpigmentation) like freckles, and age spots or sunspots.1 These findings exemplify the potential application of this popular edible herb in anti-aging, soothing, and skin-lightening cosmetic and personal care ingredients.
