FSS Exfoliation Enzyme PF is obtained by a combination of acidic and enzymatic hydrolysis of the extract of the flowers of Opuntia ficus-indica. This botanical, also known as prickly pear, is one of the most cold-tolerant of lowland cacti native to desert areas of Mexico. The desert provides a unique set of challenges to plant life such as extremely low humidity levels and elevated temperatures year round. The prickly pear is mostly noted for its ability to withstand extremely low humidity levels and high UV radiation. This plant’s secondary metabolites consist of a complex of enzymes and stress response elements that work synergistically to prevent damage and promote repair. In the case of the enzymes, their main role in the system is to boost carbohydrate metabolism to repair the damage caused during desiccation.
