Description

FSS HONEY EXTRACT OS

Honey is a natural, viscous product derived from the nectar of flowers and then secreted by bees as a way to store food for cooler, winter temperatures. This is due to the shortage of flowers in wintertime when bees are unable to forage enough food, therefore, honey is stored overtime in honeycombs. Honey is ideal for bees, as it is full of nutrients and its high sugar content provides a surplus of energy. Humans use honey as well – it is a great health supplement for sweetening, flavoring, browning, caramelization, and is known to prevent oxidation and provide antioxidant properties. Although there are many benefits of ingesting this sweet product, honey has place in the cosmetic world as well.

Honey is known to provide moisturization to skin, act as a humectant, an antibacterial, and a flavoring agent. There are many products on the market containing honey in face masks, hair lightening treatments, hair conditioners, and even acne treatments. Known to be a humectant, allowing water to stay bound to the skin, a product containing honey may be ideal for providing moisturization and hydration to the skin, as well as nourishment and volumization properties to the hair. Honey is also known to show an osmotic effect, which can attribute to its antibacterial properties. In the case of a wound, honey can draw fluid through wound tissue from the underlying circulation, creating a film and moist healing environment that provides oxygenation and nitrification to the wound. In this moist environment, the high osmolarity of honey protects the skin from maceration and the antibacterial activity of honey prevents bacterial growth. Because of the osmotic effect of honey and correlating antibacterial activities, its combination with the presence of hydrogen peroxide and an acidic pH may make it the perfect treatment for clear, younger looking skin.

Regarding the addition of Simmondsia chinensis seed oil, this has become a valuable component of cosmetic emulsions. Acting as a liquid wax with a similar composition to human sebum, its rich content of active ingredients offers bacteriostatic action as well as moisturizing, re-fatting, regenerating, and soothing properties. The bacteriostatic effect of Simmondsia chinensis seed oil also aids in prolonging a formulations lifespan.

FSS Honey Extract OS is a product that can be used to capitalize on the benefits of honey and Simmondsia chinensis seed oil in a variety of cosmetic and personal care formulations.
