Our environment can wreak havoc on our skin regardless of the season. In the winter, bitter cold temperatures and harsh winds can leave our skin prone to drying out. While in the summer, high temperatures, increased sun exposure and common outdoor activities such as spending a day pool side also affect the hydration levels of our skin. Dry skin is obviously a problem, in addition to making us feel uncomfortable, our skin looks rough and minor imperfections become amplified. This is why it’s important to use moisturizers as part of our daily skin care routines. 

To meet the needs of today’s consumer we’ve developed a complex of natural moisturizers that coincide with the growing desire for natural ingredients in personal care and cosmetic products. FSS Moisture Complex 1 consists of hydrolyzed milk protein, rice bran oil and acai fruit extract in a glycerin base, all of which can increase smoothness and moisturization. 

Acai is one of the trendiest superfruits being used in cosmetics. Superfruits are recognized not only for their health benefits, but also for their unique marketing appeal. Interest for acai begin with the trend for exotic botanicals, but became further popularized on talk shows such as Oprah, where it’s been referred to as “Nature’s Energy Fruit”. Our acai berry extract contains essential fatty acids, which help condition the skin while the extract works to increase epidermal hydration.  

From a nutritional stand point, we are also seeing a growing interest for the use of rice bran oil, which is considered to be a healthy alternative to other oils used for cooking. Rice bran oil has also traditionally been used in Asian cultures to improve the skin’s texture. In Japan, this concept has been referred to as “Nuka-Bijin” which roughly translates into “Bran Beauty” in English. In terms of efficacy, our rice bran oil has been shown to enhance barrier function which helps to minimize trans epidermal water loss (TEWL). 

The third ingredient in our FSS Moisture Complex 1 is hydrolyzed milk protein. Milk is a common addition to a variety of cosmetic products and has been used to condition the skin while also providing nutritive benefits. Hydrolyzed proteins can enhance moisture while also forming a film to tighten and lift the skin. 

FSS Moisture Complex 1 is light-weight and clear, with a very low odor which makes it the perfect ingredient for almost any type of moisturizing lotion. When applied to the skin it imparts smooth, hydrated and soft texture without leaving an undesirable greasy or tacky film. Together the ingredients in this unique complex can moisturize not only by delivering moisture to the skin, but also by creating a barrier to lock in moisture.
