Description

FSS Quaternized Plant Keratin PBF DRK

Quaternized plant keratin is designed as a substantive film-former and moisturizer for anionic substrates. Due to the cationic nature of hydroxypropyltrimonium corn, wheat and soy amino acids extracted from corn, wheat and soy proteins, this ingredient is an indispensable component of cosmetic formulations, particularly for hair care products. These natural conditioning agents can work wonders in improving hair manageability and softness. When applied to the hair, they form a protective layer on the surface, effectively reducing friction and static electricity.1 This protective barrier not only makes combing easier but also minimizes hair breakage, leaving the hair smoother and more resilient. Additionally, these amino acids have a positive charge, allowing them to bond with the negatively charged surface of the hair, enhancing their ability to adhere and provide long-lasting conditioning effects.1 Because of the anionic nature of skin, quaternized plant keratin can also find possible applications as a substantive moisturizer.

Moreover, these protein derivatives provide significant hydration benefits for both the skin and hair. By attracting moisture molecules from the environment, they help maintain optimal hydration levels, promoting skin elasticity and suppleness.2 Penetrating the hair shaft, they assist in repairing damaged cuticles and reinforcing the hair structure, resulting in stronger, more resilient strands capable of withstanding environmental stressors and styling damage.2 Furthermore, their humectant properties ensure moisture retention within the hair and skin, preventing dryness and dehydration and promoting a healthy, hydrated appearance.

Additionally, hydroxypropyltrimonium corn, wheat and soy amino acids provide antioxidant protection, guarding the skin and hair against environmental stressors such as UV radiation and pollutants.3 These antioxidants neutralize free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can cause oxidative damage to cells and tissues, leading to premature aging and other signs of damage. By incorporating these natural conditioning agents into cosmetic formulations, manufacturers can craft products that not only provide immediate benefits such as improved hair manageability and hydration, but also offer long-term protection against environmental damage.3 This ensures that consumers can enjoy healthier-looking hair and skin both now and in the future.
