Description

Glycol Distearate

Glycol Distearate is a versatile, naturally derived ingredient prized for its ability to enhance the visual appeal and texture of personal care formulations. Most commonly used as a pearlizing agent, it imparts a rich, high-luster pearlescent finish to shampoos, body washes, and cleansers—without significantly affecting viscosity.

In addition to its aesthetic benefits, Glycol Distearate also functions as an emollient and emulsion stabilizer, contributing to a smooth, velvety skin feel. It melts between 60–63°C and can be incorporated with ease into both rinse-off and leave-on formulations. When formulating this material can be heated to 70 - 75 °C.

Use levels typically range from 0.5% to 4%. In lotions and creams, concentrations of 1–2% help enhance body and texture, while higher levels (up to 10%) may create a thicker, paste-like consistency. In cleansing products, Glycol Distearate is used at 0.5–2.5% to add opacity, softness, and a pearlescent effect—without significantly impacting foaming performance.

Ideal for creams, lotions, shampoos, facial cleansers, and body washes, Glycol Distearate is a go-to ingredient for formulators looking to elevate both the performance and appearance of their products.
